ETERNAL EXCELLENCE

ETERNAL EXCELLENCE

This gorgeous suite includes a set of 2 ammonite stone statues from the island of Java and a terracotta vase from Borneo, all made with ancient techniques.

Ammonites were one of the longest living creatures in the world, roaming the oceans for more than 350 million years. Their name is inspired by the spiral shape of their shells, resembling tightly coiled horns or snakes.

They were widely hunted, but thrived on fear to progress and develop through time, becoming some of the most iconic beings on earth. In medieval Europe, Ammonites were thought to be petrified coiled snakes, and were called snakestones or serpentstones, thought to have healing powers and being a protectant against snake bites. Ammonites are believed to reinforce our intuition and teach us how to listen to our inner voice of reason, providing us with guidance and leadership throughout our lives.

Pottery making in Borneo, the home of the vase, has deep roots in the island’s cultural and spiritual traditions, dating back thousands of years. Traditionally, pottery was crafted by indigenous communities like the Dayak, who used locally sourced clay to create functional vessels for storing water, cooking, and ceremonial purposes.

Each piece was often hand-shaped without the use of a potter's wheel, inspired by nature, ancestors, and spiritual beliefs. Pottery held symbolic significance, often linked to rituals, blessings, and offerings. Though much of this ancient craft has been replaced by modern materials, traditional pottery continues to hold cultural value, reflecting the rich heritage and artisanal skills passed down through generations.

The suite comes complete with the ammonite on their blackened metal stands and the stories of the 3 pieces printed out for you inside a beautiful envelope. Being artisan crafted, every piece is an original and slightly different, showcasing the natural beauty of the materials and their organic imperfections.  The handmade metal supports carry their own authenticity, with subtle imperfections, irregularities and the potential for a natural patina to emerge over time. Being hand painted with natural pigments the vase is exclusively suitable for dry flowers or plants.
