Large Vintage Lola-Lola bracelet from Sulawesi

Large Vintage Lola-Lola bracelet from Sulawesi

A SYMBOL OF GREAT IMPORTANCE

This stunning piece was hand crafted by local artisans on the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia, made with ancient techniques sometime during the mid 1900’s in brass, fabric, natural fiber and onyx. It's the only piece of this kind and size in our collection today.

Bracelets like these were worn during ceremonies and funerals by women from the community of indigenous people residing in the Mamasa Regency in West Sulawesi. The ancestral religion is called Ada' Mappurondo or Aluk Tomatua, a tradition that continues to be passed across generations. Ada 'Mappurondo is carried out especially after rice harvests. A truly unique tradition of the Mamasa people are their burials, which are extravagant ceremonies of great importance.

Dimensions: 59 x 29 x 10cm with the metal support

The bracelet comes complete with its blackened metal stand and its story printed out for you inside a beautiful envelope.
